NEBS does not provide benefits for pensioners. NEBS has partnered with the Alberta Retired Teachers’ Association (ARTA) to make the ARTA Retiree Benefits Plan available to eligible retirees who receive a NEBS Pension.
NEBS Pension Plan participants may apply for ARTA Retiree Benefits Plan coverage upon retirement. As long as they apply within 60 days of losing their group benefits coverage, their coverage is guaranteed regardless of their health or medical conditions.
The spouse of a deceased NEBS Pension Plan recipient, who would have met the below criteria, is eligible to participate in the ARTA Retiree Benefits Plan.
Participation in the Plan is voluntary and available to NEBS Pension Plan Participants and their dependents who meet the following criteria:
- Vested to receive, or in receipt of, a NEBS Pension;
- Age 55 or older;
- A permanent resident of Canada;
- Covered by provincial/territorial health care in their province/territory of residence including any provincial health and drug plans for which they are eligible; and
- ARTA member in good standing.
ARTA offers ten Benefits Plans, which include a variety of coverage for extended health care, emergency travel coverage, and dental care.
